Introduction
The ministry of World Convention (Christian - Churches of Christ - Disciples of Christ) was one of the first groups to use internet releases to share information. About two years ago this ceased because we could not do it well enough. Now we are back with ChristiaNet. We hope you will find ChristiaNet informative, helpful and enjoyable.
World Convention ...
seeks to build up fellowship, understanding and common purpose within the Christian - Churches of Christ - Disciples of Christ family of churches in at least 165 countries.
Brighton 2004
Over 450 people have already registered for the 16th World Convention of Churches of Christ in Brighton, England, July 28 - August 1 next year. Attendance is expected to be 3000-4000 and we hope that at least fifty countries will be represented. Come if you can for global fellowship, inspiring worship, outstanding speakers, stimulating Bible study, equipping mission and ministry tracks, and informative seminars. Go to the World Convention web site www.worldconvention.org for information and a registration form.
World Christian
Publishing a small quarterly paper, World Christian is one way we try to build up our sense of belonging together every day. It carries news of our churches, as well as the latest news on the World Conventions themselves, to over 100 countries. Copies are mailed free, although those who are able to, are asked to make an annual Friends' gift to World Convention. Email us your 'snail-mail' address and we'll gladly add you to the mailing list. Issue 40 (first quarter 2003) has just been mailed.
Churches of Christ in Poland
Churches of Christ in Poland were established in 1921. Paul Bajko, Maryland, USA, (born in Poland and founder of Polish Christian Ministries) has written the amazing story of these churches. Written first in Polish, it is now available in English. Contact Wayne Murphy at Polish Christian Ministries (+1 410 836-6102 or pcm21014@msn.com) for copies. You can make a gift to cover the cost of the book, postage and handling.
Memorial Service for Marjorie Black
Marj Black, president of World Convention, 1992-96 and president of World CWF 1974-1980, died October 25. A memorial service will be held for Marj at the Aboretum, University of Guelph (Ontario, Canada) at 3 pm on May 3. Please come if you can.
War
Within our churches there are differences of opinion about the need for the current war in Iraq. But we can all pray for those directly involved (citizens and armed forces) whose lives are at risk, for the earliest possible peace, and for a renewed response from the church universal to the challenge to earnestly preach the gospel of reconciliation.
Please pray for:
- The opening of the new church of the Makokoba congregation in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Sunday March 30. It is expected to be full (700) each Sunday.
- The meeting of the Common Global Ministries Board (Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in USA/Canada and United Church of Christ in the USA) April 2-5 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.
- Tawanda Sibanda, formerly of Khaylehile Christian Village (the current project of the World CWF) who graduates from Zimbabwe Christian College on April 4 and enters ministry (associate Pastor) in the Colenbrander Church of Christ in Bulawayo.
- The International University (a cappella Churches of Christ) in Vienna (Austria), Kiev (Ukraine) and Alicante (Spain). Its recent celebration of ten years in Kiev was carried by Ukrainian Television.
- Geon Christian Children's Home in Seoul, and the wonderful new dining hall under construction at last for this family of 72 children.
- More effective ministry, dealing with causes and care, to those dying of hunger. 24,000 per day worldwide.
'The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the very sharing in the blood of Christ? When we break the bread do we not actually share in the body of Christ? The very fact that we share in one bread, makes us one body.' (1 Corinthians 10: 15)
