Global Leaders
March 8th saw both the death of Dr Allan Lee, General Secretary of World Convention from 1971-1992 and the appointment of the fifth General Secretary of World Convention since its establishment in 1930, Jeff Weston of Australia.  Dr Lee had been ill for some time.  Jeff will take office on January 1 but will begin in October to provide some overlap and continuity.  More information in World Christian, first quarter (see below).

10,000 new students
World Bible School, a global ministry within a cappella Churches of Christ, enrolled over 10,000 new students in The Philippines, March 1-25.  WBS is a free correspondence course aimed at developing congregations spiritually and numerically.  It has been a major factor in the huge growth of churches in Africa.  www.philippinechurchesofchrist.org

More than 550 first time decisions were reported
by Central India Christian Mission (Christian Churches/Churches of Christ) at March evangelistic meetings in Delhi, Durg (new building opened with almost 2000 in attendance), Bardihi, and Palidihi (new building opened).

Broadcasting from Madagascar
Franklin, Tennessee, USA based, World Christian Broadcasting Corporation, already broadcasting to half the world from Alaska, is currently searching for a site to build a radio station in Madagascar.  wcbctn@worldchristian.org

President Emeritus
Church Extension, a general unit of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the USA and Canada, has named former president Harold R (Hal) Watkins, President Emeritus - a 'first' for the 121 year old organisation.  Dr Watkins was also president of World Convention: 1988-1992 (Long Beach Convention, 1992.)

Over 1000 youth attended the Jamaican Christian Churches/Churches of Christ Youth Convention in Kingston on February 25.  The theme was, 'Take a Stand'.  www.jamaicachristianmission.org  Forty-two members of the Uniting Church of Jamaica and Cayman Islands have registered for the World Convention in Brighton in July.

Homes for Haiti
Lifeline, a Christian Church/Churches of Christ ministry in Haiti, has been receiving three containers full of homes this year from the USA. Twenty-seven homes will be built in 2004.

Over 300 train in Poland
303 men & women took part in the Warsaw Christian Bible Institute' programs in 2003.  That takes the total to 2,800 over nineteen years.  Eight new books were published in 2003.  We look forward to sharing with members of the Polish churches in 'Brighton'. 

Australian Survey
According to the 2001 National Church Life Survey, 3% of those attending church in Australia belong to Churches of Christ.  Churches of Christ are listed as the sixth largest group and are growing slightly especially amongst teens, forties and retirees.

Convention Choir on USA National Television
The choir of Mountain Mission School of Grundy, Virginia (Christian Churches/Churches of Christ) appeared on national television on March 28 singing the national anthem at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.  About forty from the school will be at World Convention in England and will sing there.

- The first quarter 2004 issue of World Christian has been mailed.  It contains an outline of the World Convention program, details of optional programs and ticketed functions (asking conventioners to send in their choices) and news of our global church family.  If you're not on the mailing list, send your postal address to worldconv@aol.com right away.
- Registration for World Convention will continue right through to the convention itself.  You can even register on the spot.  However, we recommend registering NOW to ensure you receive all convention information before leaving home.  Tours organised by the World Convention office all have space available.

- Australia House at Khayelihle Children's Village in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe is being officially dedicated on Saturday, April 3.  KCV has been the global project for women in our church family for the past eight years.  A new project will be endorsed in 'Brighton'.
- 94th Philippines Christian Church/Churches of Christ National Convention.  April 16-18.  Hosted by the Laguna Churches of Christ in Liliw.
- The General Board of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the USA and Canada meets in Indianapolis, Indiana, April 17-20.
- The USA Stone-Campbell Dialogue gathers in Indianapolis, Indiana April 25-26.  Those in the vicinity can join the public session at East 91st St Christian Church at 6 pm on Sunday.
- Annual Meeting of the European Evangelistic Society, April 25-27 in Miami, USA
- May 1: Annual Conference of Churches of Christ in New South Wales, Australia. susan.conference@ihug.com.au
- May 2: National Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Great Britain Fun Day.
- May 4-7: Annual Pepperdine University (Churches of Christ) 'Lectureship'.  6000 people/240 speakers expected.  Malibu, California.  patricia.atkison@pepperdine.edu
