Launch of Project Poland
Andrew Bajenski writes that January 7th saw the Warsaw launch of project Poland, in Polish “Realna Nadzieja” which means “Real Hope.” Project Poland is an effort to mobilize Christians from all denominations in Poland to increased and intentional prayer for Poland, culturally-relevant evangelism and cooperation in the common goal of presenting the living, relevant Christ in Polish society. Northern Ireland Appeal for Unity
Protestant and Roman Catholic leaders of Northern Ireland’s four biggest churches recently appealed for their long-divided flocks to unite politically in 2007. In a joint statement, Catholic Archbishop Sean Brady, Presbyterian Moderator David Clarke, Church of Ireland Archbishop Robin Eames and Methodist President Ivan McElhinney said their “people face a year of decision that will affect our future and that of our children and grandchildren.’ Their comments were directed at the hopes of forging a stable Catholic-Protestant administration, the central goal of Northern Ireland’s 1998 peace accord.
Fire Destroys Philippine College of Ministry
On December 2, 20006 fire ravaged the library of Philippine College of Ministry in Baguio City. About 10,000 books, all periodicals, fiche, audio-visual resources and equipment were lost in the blaze; an estimated loss of more than $40,000. The new building, dedicated less than a year-and-a-half ago also sustained serious damage. The World Convention Planning Committee has launched a scholarship program to assist pastors and Church leaders from two-third world countries to attend the 17th World Convention. The T.W. Phillips Memorial, home of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society, in Nashville, Tennessee has been added to the United States’ National Register of Historic Places. The building houses the world’s largest collection of historical material and artifacts associated with the global fellowship of Stone-Campbell Movement churches. The most recent issue of World Christian profiles the Historical Society as a partner in ministry and sponsor partner of the 2008 Convention. On January 1, 2007 Carl Bookout assumed the role of Executive Director of Hisportic Christian Mission, proclaiming the message by planting churches among Portuguese-speaking immigrants who have come to the US. Richland Hills Church of Christ, Texas, the largest a cappella Church of Christ in the United States recently added an instrumental service to their weekend line-up.
