World Convention Sunday, August 5, 2007
The first Sunday of August each year is set aside to recognize the day-today global ministry of World Convention. A sample worship service as been prepared providing elements that might be used by local congregations in lifting up the ministry on that day.  Request a copy of service and/or brochures to distribute on August 5 by emailing the office at worldconv@aol.com

Unity Service takes Place in Perth, Western Australia

Believed to be the first of its kind, a historic worship event recently took place in Perth recently when members of two Associated Churches of Christ congregations, an a cappella Church of Christ and a Boston Church of Christ met together for worship. The non-instrumental service featured preaching by an Associated Church of Christ preacher. Graham Carslake, a 45 year veteran of the ministry, said of the service, “This has been a grass roots venture between the churches for it to happen.”

 

Sermon Series Available in Sign Language

Deaf Missions has announced the creation of a website to allow members of the deaf community to view sermons via the Internet. This new ministry is called LINK: ASL Sermon Series and will feature sermons presented weekly in sign language via streaming video on a new website owned by Deaf Missions – http://www.linkasl.com  Sermons will also be available on DVD for purchase.

 

Stone-Campbell Resource Available

A word searchable index to Chalice Concordance to the Chalice Hymnal and Chalice Praise has been released as a paperback book with CD-ROM by Chalice Press. Compiled and edited by Susan D. Adams, the concordance will be of use to any worship planner, church musicians, seminarians or anyone seeking the right hymn, song or reading. Registration Brochures at the Printers!

The next issue of World Christian will come in the form of the registration brochure for the 17th World Convention. It will include important schedule information and announcement of the key note speakers. US subscribers may expect World Christian near the end of July while it will take slightly longer for it to reach our overseas friends! We will look forward to your return registrations!

The June 2007 issue of DisciplesWorld magazine contained a candid editorial by Publisher and Editor, Verity Jones on the state of the periodical. Without a substantial increase in circulation the five-year old publication could cease to exist. On the Queen’s birthday, Principal of the Australian Church of Christ Theological College Merrill Kitchen, was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for service to religion and the community as a leader of volunteer work for groups to the Nazareth Hospital, Israel and as a contributor in the field of theological education.

Haitian Christian Mission is seeking sponsorship for more than 10,000 children to attend school in a country where illiteracy affects 85% of the population. Additionally, between $20,000 and $60,000 each is needed to build seven churches and school buildings. July 27-29th is the date for the local convention to be held at Fonds-Parisien. July 8th saw the dedication ceremony at Ashwood Mission Hospital, Daund India of new Labor Room facilities. Known for its high quality and compassionate care, Ashwood subsidizes the fees for many patients who cannot afford to pay their full hospital fees. In addition, 42 women have completed training at the hospital and were commissioned as volunteers for the Child Health Care program. These ladies will assist in maternity clinics and will also give vaccinations and training for adolescent girls. Dr. Philemon Pawar is Ashwood’s Director.     

 

World Convention on the Road

Jeff Weston will be on the road several times in late summer on behalf of the global ministry of World Convention. July 21-25 he will be in Fort Worth, Texas for the Disciples General Assembly. Be sure to stop by the Booth to pick up your special World Convention reminder. August 6-8 Jeff will represent our global family and be speaker at the 75th Anniversary of the Korean Christian Churches and Churches of Christ in Seoul.
