New Offices Up and Running!

In the January edition of ChristiaNet we reported to you that for the first time in the 75 year history of World Convention the offices of the Convention will be housed in facilities owned by the Convention. On Tuesday February 21 the move was made to the new facility at 1279 Brentwood Highlands, Nashville, Tennessee.  The new offices will be located on the ground floor while the upper levels will be utilized as a residence for the General Secretary and his family. Watch the upcoming issue of World Christian for complete details. Anyone wishing to financially assist with the purchase of the new facility is encouraged to contact Jeff Weston, General Secretary.

Peanut Butter for Haiti

Lifeline Christian Mission of Westerville, Ohio has served the spiritual and physical needs of the people of Haiti for nearly 25 years.  An effort in recent years has been shipping peanut butter to Haiti to supply much needed protein, vitamins and minerals as a supplement to the poor Haitian diet. The 2006 goal is to ship 65,000 jars of peanut butter. Those wishing to join in this project should contact Lifeline in the U.S. at (614) 794-0108 or via the web at www.lifeline.org. The forthcoming issue of World Christian will carry a partner profile on Lifeline Christian Mission.

Unity a Popular Theme for 2006

2006 marks the 100th anniversary of schism in the Stone-Campbell Movement that yielded the Churches of Christ (a cappella) as a separate body from the Christian Churches. Recognizing that division based upon man-made tests of fellowship is contrary to Jesus’ prayer found in John 17 many groups are making Unity their theme for 2006 (see Coming Events, below).  Several periodicals have also joined in the discussion of Unity within the Stone-Campbell Movement. The February 2006 issue of Christian Chronicle headlined with a Unity feature that included a four-page special section, see it online at http://www.christianchronicle.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=180

See the Winter 2006 issue of One Body magazine published by Peace on Earth Ministries (www.poeministries) for 1906 A Play in One Act by World Convention Executive Member Douglas A. Foster for a historical background of the division. The issue also carries items of interest relative to the theme of Unity.

The World Convention is proud to have been a part of the efforts towards Christian Unity for 75 years!

News Briefs:

·                     The University Press of Kentucky (www.kentuckypress.com) has released a new volume by Elder John Sparks entitled Raccoon John Smith, Frontier Kentucky’s Most Famous Preacher. ·                     Doulos Christo Press of Indianapolis, Indiana (www.douloschristou.com) has released Disciple of Peace: Alexander Campbell on Pacifism, Violence, and the State by Craig Watts.  The 161 page is a careful analysis of a segment of the church’s pacifist past.
