Background
The Northern Mariana Islands are a territory of the United States located in the north Pacific about three-quarters of the way between Hawaii and the Philippines and just north of Guam. The area of the islands encompasses 477 sq km (184 sq miles) and has a population of approximately 70,000. There are fourteen main islands which include Saipan, Rota and Tinian. The climate is a tropical marine climate and the people of the islands belong to a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds. While economic development is growing, particularly in the area of tourism, much of the economy is dependent upon the United States. Agriculture and cattle are important factors in the local economy.
An a cappella Church of Christ of approximately 55 members is located on the island of Saipan.
