World Convention is currently building a global reference for the  countries and territories where we know there are Christian – Churches of Christ – Disciples of Christ Congregations. Of the 193 United Nations States, the Stone-Campbell Movement exists in 165. This listing includes other nations and territories, numbering 194 countries where there is at least one representation of our churches.

The Republic of Ecuador is bordered by Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Quito is the capital but the main port of Guayaquil  is the largest  city with a population of around 3.75 million people in the metropolitan area .


80.44% Roman Catholic, 11.30% are Protestants, 1.29% are Jehovah’s Witnesses and 6.97% other.

Stone-Campbell Presence

N.E. Sewell from Churches of Christ spent ten years in Ecuador beginning in 1967. Other workers like Louis and Dottie McBride followed in the 1970s to 1990s, so that in 2013 there are a dozen congregations with local ministers. The Hacienda of Hope Orphanage is a ministry of Twickenham Church of Christ (Huntsville, AL) along with its ministry partners – Northridge Church of Christ (Shawnee, OK), and First City Church (Pensacola, FL). The Hacienda is located near the small town of Tabacundo, Ecuador.

James and Ethel Gaither from Christian Churches/Churches of Christ worked in Ecuador beginning in the 1970s. Mike and Dani Bukta work in Cheguevara, sponsored by Project New Hope.

The Quito Church of Christ with over 200 members is associated with International Churches of Christ.

The Division of Overseas Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) partners with Centro Integral de la Familia (CIF), Confraternidad Evangelica Ecuatoriana, Consejo de Pueblos y Organizaciones Indigenas Evangelicas del Ecuador (FEINE), Fundacion Ecumenica Para el Desarrollo Integral Capacitacion-Education (FEDICE), Iglesia Evangelica Unida del Ecuador (IEUE), and La Asociacion Latinoamericana de Asesoramiento y Pastoral Familiar (EIRENE) in Ecuador.
