Description

Eritrea is bordered by Sudan to the west, Ethiopia in the south, and Djibouti in the southeast. Its capital is Asmara, with a population of 650,000. Total population of the country is 6,233,682. Eritrea is a one-party state whose human rights record is considered poor.

Religion

62.9% Christianity, 36.2% Islam. The government of Eritrea officially recognizes Sunni Islam, the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church, Catholicism, and the Evangelical Lutheran church. All other faiths and denominations are required to undergo a registration process that includes personal information on their membership to be allowed to worship. Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and numerous other evangelical denominations are not registered and cannot worship freely.

Stone-Campbell Presence

There is at least one Church of Christ with over 100 members and an Eritrean minister in Asmara. This church is now registered with the government.
