Background

The Lao People’s Democratic Republic, is bordered by Burma and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the south, and Thailand to the west. Laos is a single-party Marxist socialist republic.

Religion

67% Theravada Buddhist, 1.5% Christian, and 31.5% other or unspecified.

Stone-Campbell Presence

The Division of Overseas Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) partners with Church World Service and the Lao Evangelical Church.

Churches of Christ entered Laos in 1991. Partners in Progress did medical missions there in 1993. Christians meet in small groups in Laos and receive support from believers in neighboring Thailand.
