Of the 193 United Nations States, the Stone-Campbell Movement exists in 174. This listing includes other nations and territories, numbering 195 countries where there is at least one representation of our churches.

Background

The Republic of Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, bordering Honduras to the north and Costa Rica to the south. Managua is its capital and largest city.

Religion

92% Christian;  73% Roman Catholic , 15% evangelical , 2% Moravian,  2% belong to a variety of religious groups including Anglicans, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Mormons.

Stone-Campbell Presence

Church members from nearby El Salvador planted Churches of Christ in Nicaragua in the late 1960s, and now membership is an estimated 8,000. Churches of Christ also sponsor orphanages and provide medical help and material relief through ministries like Mision Para Cristo. They also assist the Biblical Institute of Central America (BICA) in Jinotepe to train evangelists. The Managua Church of Christ is associated with the International Churches of Christ.

The Division of Overseas Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) partners with Acción Médica Cristiana, Centro Ecumenico Antonio Valdivieso, Centro Inter-Eclesial de Estudios Teologicos y Sociales (CIEETS), Consejo de Iglesias Evangelicas Pro Alianza Denominacional (CEPAD), Convencion Bautista de Nicaragua, Convencion de Iglesias Mision Cristiana de Nicaragua, Iglesia Morava, Nicaraguan Protestant University (Universidad Evangelica Nicaraguense Martin Luther King, UENIC-MLK), and the Seminario Teologico Bautista de Nicaragua.
